About Peernity

What we do, and why it works

For the people, by the people

Reviews written by people who
actually own the thing.

Everyone has been burned by a product that looked perfect online. Peernity exists to make that rarer — by collecting reviews with real substance behind them, and by measuring the one thing that actually matters: did it change what you decided to do?

Why reviews stopped being useful

Not because people stopped writing them. Because of what we ask them to write, and what we count afterwards.

  • Written on day one

Most reviews are posted in the first week, when the thing is new and exciting. What you actually want to know — did it last? — nobody comes back to answer.

  • A number that says nothing

4.3 stars from 12,000 strangers is not advice. It averages away the one review written by someone in your exact situation.

  • "Was this helpful?" is a popularity vote

It measures whether people enjoyed reading something. Not whether it helped anyone decide anything.

  • You cannot tell who actually owns it

The most confident review on the page is often from someone who never bought the thing.

What we do differently

Four decisions, each one built into how the product actually works rather than into how it is advertised.

01We measure decisions, not likes

After a review helps you, you tell us one thing: did it convince you, or warn you off? Both count exactly the same. A review that stopped you wasting money is worth as much as one that sold you — which is why honest negative reviews rise here instead of sinking.

02We come back at three months

Every reviewer gets asked the question nobody else asks: has it held up? We keep the day-one review and the months-later update side by side, so you can see the gap between excitement and experience.

03The best review rises, not the newest

Product pages are ordered by how much a review actually helps: real pros and cons, a genuine story, photos, how long the person has lived with it. A thin "great product!!" does not outrank someone who has used it for two years — and long-term reviews stay near the top for longer, because they age better.

04Standing is earned from impact

Your reputation comes from how many real decisions you changed — not how often you posted. You cannot buy a tier, and volume alone will not get you one.

What we ask after a review helps you

It convinced me
It warned me off

Two answers, weighted equally. Most platforms only reward the first, which is why they slowly fill with praise. We count the review that saved you from a bad buy as an equal win — because for you, it was.

Why this is hard to copy

Any competent team can build a review site in a month. Features are easy to copy. What is not easy is the record of real decisions.

Every review here carries a number: how many people it convinced, and how many it warned off. That number is earned one honest reader at a time. It cannot be bought, scraped, or seeded — and the signals that look purchased get suppressed before they ever reach the public count.

And it compounds

More real decisions make the ranking sharper. A sharper ranking puts the right review in front of you faster. That brings more readers, who make more real decisions — and the loop tightens on itself.

A rival launching tomorrow starts that loop at zero and stays there until thousands of people have made genuine decisions on their site. They cannot buy their way past it, because the asset is other people’s honesty. That gap is the moat, and it widens on its own.

What we have built so far

Everything on this list works today. We would rather list six real things than twenty coming soon.

  • Reviews for anything

Products, places, films, services, experiences — each with the right questions for its kind.

  • Structured, not rambling

Pros and cons, a short story, a rating, photos, and how long you have actually used it.

  • Three-month follow-ups

Prompted automatically, attached to the original review.

  • Ask the owner directly

Questions can be aimed at a specific reviewer, not shouted at a page.

  • A feed that learns

For You reflects what you care about; Following is only the people you chose.

  • Fraud containment

Signals that look bought are suppressed, suspect reviews are contained, and authors can appeal a wrong call.

Written by people, not bots

A review site is only worth reading if the reviews came from humans. This is the part most platforms treat as an afterthought, and it is the part we built first.

  • No throwaway accounts

Sign-in is Google only. There is no email-and-password form to script against, and no anonymous posting — so every account that writes a review costs something real to create.

  • We never store your IP address

It is turned into a one-way hash the moment it arrives, and the key behind it rotates. That is enough to notice a pattern across accounts, and never enough to identify a person. Most sites doing this kind of detection simply keep the address.

  • Copied reviews do not land

Duplicated text is caught, and so is text that has been lightly reworded to look new. Rewriting the same review a dozen ways does not produce a dozen reviews.

  • Coordinated accounts are caught together

The harder problem is not one fake review — it is twenty accounts pretending to be strangers. We look for accounts acting as a group on the same subject and act on the group, not just whichever one posted last.

  • Standing can only be aged, not bought

Influence here comes from a history of real decisions changed. A brand-new account carries no weight no matter how much it posts, and there is nothing to purchase that shortcuts it.

  • We hide rather than delete — and you can appeal

When something looks wrong we contain it and tell the author, instead of quietly removing it. Every call is reversible, because a system that silently deletes is one nobody can check.

Put together, these do not make a fake review impossible. They make it not worth doing at scale — which is the thing that actually protects you. One fake is an annoyance. Ten thousand is what makes a review site useless, and that is the attack these are built to stop.

No system catches everything, and we would rather say so than claim a number we cannot stand behind. If something looks wrong to you, report it — a reader who noticed is the best detector there is, and reports go to a human.

What we will not do

  • No paid placements. Nobody can pay to rank higher, be featured, or have a review buried. There is no version of this product where that becomes available.

  • No buying your way up. Tiers come from decisions you influenced. There is no purchase that moves you.

  • No fake precision. We do not invent scores or confidence percentages to look scientific. If we do not know, the page says so.

And one thing we are honest about: we do not check receipts. How long someone has owned a thing is what they tell us. What carries the weight instead is the substance of the review itself and the decisions real readers say it changed — both of which are much harder to fake than a claim of ownership.
